These Terms of Use govern your use of the Dyslexia Foundation of New Zealand ("DFNZ") website and the DFNZ Knowledge Hub.
By accessing or using the Knowledge Hub, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree with these terms, please do not use the Knowledge Hub.
1. About the Knowledge Hub
The DFNZ Knowledge Hub is an information and educational resource designed to help people recognise, understand and navigate dyslexia and related learning differences.
The Knowledge Hub brings together information, resources, research, lived experience and other material intended to provide practical guidance for people in Aotearoa New Zealand.
2. Artificial Intelligence and Voice Services
AI-generated responses
The Knowledge Hub uses artificial intelligence technology, including technology provided by OpenAI, to process user questions and generate responses.
AI-generated responses are produced automatically and may contain errors, omissions or information that is incomplete, outdated or not appropriate to a particular situation.
AI-generated information should therefore be treated as general information and not as a definitive or authoritative answer.
Text-to-speech
The Knowledge Hub may use ElevenLabs technology to convert Knowledge Hub responses into spoken audio when you choose the "Read aloud" feature.
Text processed for this purpose may be transmitted to ElevenLabs in order to generate the audio response.
Speech-to-text
If you use the microphone or voice input feature, your recorded speech may be transmitted to ElevenLabs for transcription into text.
You should therefore avoid including sensitive, confidential or personally identifying information when using voice input.
3. Not Professional Advice
The Knowledge Hub does not provide medical, psychological, educational, legal or other professional advice.
Information provided by the Knowledge Hub should not be used as a substitute for advice from an appropriately qualified professional.
In particular, the Knowledge Hub cannot diagnose dyslexia or any other condition.
Where a situation requires assessment, diagnosis, treatment, educational intervention, legal advice or other professional assistance, you should consult an appropriately qualified professional.
4. Accuracy and Verification
DFNZ makes reasonable efforts to provide useful and reliable information. However, we cannot guarantee that all information provided through the website or Knowledge Hub is accurate, complete, current or suitable for every individual situation.
You should independently verify important information before relying on it, particularly where decisions could affect a person's health, education, employment, wellbeing or legal rights.
5. Do Not Share Sensitive Information
Do not enter sensitive, confidential or personally identifying information into the Knowledge Hub, including when using voice input.
This includes passwords, financial information, government identification numbers, medical or health information, confidential records, or unnecessary identifying information about children or other people.
Information submitted through the Knowledge Hub may be processed by third-party technology providers, including OpenAI and ElevenLabs, as described in our Privacy Policy.
You are responsible for the information you choose to submit to the Knowledge Hub, including information submitted using text or voice input.
6. Children and Young People
The Knowledge Hub may be useful to children and young people as well as parents, caregivers and educators.
Where appropriate, children and young people should use the Knowledge Hub with the support or supervision of a parent, caregiver, teacher or other trusted adult.
Users should take particular care not to enter identifying or sensitive information about children into the Knowledge Hub.
7. Emergency Situations
The Knowledge Hub is not an emergency service and should not be used for urgent medical, psychological or safety concerns.
If you or another person is in immediate danger or requires urgent assistance, contact the appropriate emergency or professional service.
8. Acceptable Use
You agree to use the Knowledge Hub responsibly and lawfully.
You must not:
- Use the service for unlawful purposes.
- Attempt to interfere with or disrupt the website or its systems.
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the website or its systems.
- Use the service to harass, threaten or harm another person.
- Deliberately submit malicious code or other harmful material.
- Attempt to misuse the AI service or circumvent reasonable technical restrictions.
9. Intellectual Property
Unless otherwise stated, content published by DFNZ on the website, including text, graphics, logos, branding and original resources, is owned by or licensed to DFNZ.
You may access and use the material for personal, educational and non-commercial purposes, provided that you do not remove attribution or copyright notices.
You must obtain appropriate permission before reproducing, commercially exploiting or substantially republishing DFNZ materials.
10. Third-Party Content and Links
The Knowledge Hub may refer to or link to information, services and websites operated by third parties.
These references are provided for information and convenience. DFNZ does not necessarily endorse or guarantee the accuracy, availability or suitability of third-party content or services.
11. Availability of the Service
DFNZ aims to make the Knowledge Hub available 24 hours a day, but we do not guarantee that the website or AI service will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free.
We may modify, suspend or discontinue any part of the service where reasonably necessary, including for maintenance, security or technical reasons.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by New Zealand law, DFNZ is not liable for loss, damage or harm arising from reliance on information provided through the website or Knowledge Hub.
This includes reliance on AI-generated information, errors or omissions in content, interruptions to the service, or decisions made based on information obtained through the Knowledge Hub.
Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude or limit any liability or rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under New Zealand law.
13. Privacy and Third-Party AI Providers
Your use of the Knowledge Hub is also subject to our Privacy Policy .
The Privacy Policy explains what information may be collected, how it may be used, and how information submitted through the Knowledge Hub may be processed by third-party technology providers.
These providers may include OpenAI, which provides the AI technology used to generate Knowledge Hub responses, and ElevenLabs, which may provide speech-to-text and text-to-speech services.
Information sent to these providers is processed in accordance with the applicable services and privacy arrangements of those providers.

14. Changes to These Terms
DFNZ may update these Terms of Use from time to time.
Any updated version will be published on this page and will take effect when posted.
Your continued use of the Knowledge Hub after updated Terms have been published constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
15. Governing Law
These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of New Zealand.
Any disputes relating to your use of the website or Knowledge Hub will be subject to the applicable laws and courts of New Zealand.
